Methods at 15 Months
Ferber and CIO are the primary recommendations. At this age, adding a pre-sleep "OK to sleep" routine can help: a specific phrase like "I love you, it's sleepy time" said consistently at put-down becomes a sleep cue over time. The Chair method is generally less effective at 15+ months because toddlers are too interactive.
Single Nap Schedule
Most 15-month-olds have completed or are completing the 2-to-1 transition. A typical 1-nap schedule: wake at 6:30-7:00 AM, nap around 12:00-12:30 PM (1.5-2.5 hours), bedtime at 7:00-7:30 PM. The long morning wake window (5-5.5 hours) is normal for this age.
Common Challenges
- Crib gymnastics: Your toddler may roll, flip, stand, and bounce as a way to resist sleep. This is self-regulation, not distress.
- Calling your name repeatedly. Stay consistent and don't return outside of scheduled check-ins.
- Throwing everything out of the crib. Remove unnecessary items. If they throw their lovey, return it once.
- Early attempts at crib climbing. Keep the mattress at the lowest setting and dress in a sleep sack.
If your toddler can climb out of the crib, this is a safety issue. Switch to a floor mattress or toddler bed and use a doorway gate or "OK to wake" clock to set boundaries.
