Sleep Needs at 7 Months
Seven-month-olds need 12-15 hours of total sleep. Most babies are settling into a solid 2-3 nap schedule, with night sleep of 10-12 hours. If your baby hasn't dropped the third nap yet, it's likely happening soon as wake windows continue to stretch.
Typical wake windows at 7 months are about 165 minutes (2 hours 45 minutes), with the pre-bedtime window at 210 minutes (3.5 hours). These windows are long enough that a 2-nap schedule works well for most babies.
Sample Schedule
- 6:30 AM — Wake up
- 9:15 AM — Nap 1 (1-1.5 hours)
- 1:00 PM — Nap 2 (1-1.5 hours)
- 3:30 PM — Nap 3 (30 min catnap, if needed)
- 7:00 PM — Bedtime
Common Challenges
Sitting up, crawling, and pulling to stand are all developing around this age. Your baby may practice these exciting new skills in the crib instead of sleeping. Separation anxiety can also begin to surface, making bedtime and nap transitions more emotional. Consistent routines are your strongest tool.
If your baby is pulling to stand in the crib but can't get back down, practice sitting from standing during playtime. Once they master it, the nighttime standing sessions usually resolve within a few days.
