14-Month Sleep Guide

Sleep Needs at 14 Months

Fourteen-month-olds need 12-14 hours of total sleep. Depending on where your toddler is in the nap transition, they may be on 2 naps totaling 2-2.5 hours or beginning to consolidate into a single longer nap. Night sleep is 11-12 hours.

Wake windows are approximately 225 minutes (3 hours 45 minutes), with the pre-bedtime window at 240 minutes (4 hours). If transitioning to 1 nap, the morning wake window will stretch significantly to accommodate a late-morning or midday nap.

Managing the Transition

The 2-to-1 transition is rarely clean. Many toddlers do well with an alternating schedule — 1-nap days when they seem alert and energetic, 2-nap days when they're clearly tired earlier. This flexible approach can last 2-4 weeks while your toddler's stamina builds. On 1-nap days, aim for an early bedtime to compensate.

On 1-nap days, schedule the nap around 12:00-12:30 PM and move bedtime earlier to 6:30 PM. On 2-nap days, keep the usual schedule. Your toddler will eventually settle into the 1-nap pattern as their endurance grows.
