Sleep Needs at 11 Months

Eleven-month-olds need 12-14 hours of total sleep. Night sleep is typically 11-12 hours, and daytime sleep totals 2-2.5 hours across 2 naps. Your baby's schedule should feel fairly stable at this age, with consistent wake and nap times from day to day.

Wake windows are around 210 minutes (3.5 hours) across the board, including the pre-bedtime window. Some babies may naturally start stretching their morning wake window slightly longer than their afternoon one.

Common Challenges

As your baby approaches their first birthday, first steps and first words bring exciting but sleep-disrupting developmental leaps. Another common nap strike can occur around 11 months, tempting parents to drop to 1 nap. Resist this urge — most babies aren't truly ready for the 2-to-1 transition until 13-18 months.

If your baby is resisting one nap, try shortening it to 30-45 minutes rather than eliminating it. A capped second nap prevents bedtime battles while keeping the 2-nap structure intact until your baby is developmentally ready for fewer naps.
